Buckeye broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning and rolled past Lakewood 10-0 on Wednesday at Buckeye High School, leaning on a sharp day at the plate from Faith Shaw and another dominant outing in the circle from Lilly Young.

Shaw finished 3 for 3 with three runs scored and three RBIs, setting the tone for the Bucks offense from the start. Buckeye opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, cashing in with two singles. Shaw delivered the first run of the day with a single, and the Bucks never gave Lakewood room to settle in. Maddie Wilhelm added another big performance at the top of the lineup, going 3 for 4 with two runs scored and three stolen bases.

The decisive stretch came in the fourth, when Buckeye sent the lineup through and piled up six runs on seven hits. Shaw singled in two more runs during the rally, Ava Piovarchy brought home one with a single, Juliana Melillo lined a single that scored two, and Kelsey Morano followed with an RBI single of her own. By the end of the inning, the Bucks had turned a comfortable lead into a rout.

Young made sure the advantage held. The right-hander struck out 12, allowed just two hits and one walk, and did not permit a run across five innings in the shutout. The performance extended Young’s streak to 36 consecutive scoreless innings, another marker in an already impressive run. Lakewood had few answers against her mix and command, and Buckeye’s defense backed the effort cleanly behind her.

Buckeye finished with 13 hits, with Shaw and Wilhelm leading the way with three apiece. Cassy Minarchick and Melillo also had multiple hits as the lineup produced traffic throughout the game. The Bucks showed patience, drawing six walks, and pressure on the bases, stealing 10 bags. Shaw and Wilhelm each swiped three bases. Buckeye also played an error-free game in the field, and Shaw handled a team-high 12 chances defensively.

The win came on Senior Night at the varsity softball field and sent Buckeye into its next test with momentum. The Bucks are scheduled to return to action Thursday at Normandy.
