Buckeye JV rolls past Normandy behind McNamee's four-RBI day
Buckeye Junior Varsity broke the game open from the start Thursday and never let Normandy climb back, piling up 25 hits in a 23-5 win in Parma behind a four-RBI performance from Michaela McNamee.
The decisive stretch came early. Buckeye surged ahead in the top of the first inning when Mackenzie Anderson singled home three runs, Maddie Andrukat followed with an RBI triple, and McNamee added an RBI single. The Bucks kept the pressure on with seven more runs in the second. Abby Haun and Kelsey Willis each drove in a run with singles, Anderson drew a bases-loaded walk, Andrukat delivered a single that brought home three runs, and Sophie Osborne added an RBI on a groundout.
Buckeye put the game further out of reach with another seven-run burst in the third. Ally Hules worked a walk to force in a run, Jae Mooney doubled home another, McNamee singled in a run, Morgan Haas followed with an RBI single, Willis doubled in one more, and Ryenne Ford also doubled to drive in a run. McNamee finished 4 for 4 and drove in four runs, doubling in the fourth inning for two more RBIs after her run-scoring singles in the first and third. Ford also collected four hits as the Bucks' lineup produced traffic all afternoon.
Andrukat, Haun, Mooney, Willis and Haas each added multiple hits in the balanced offensive effort. Buckeye also showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks, with Hules leading the way with two. On the bases, Haun, McNamee and Haas each stole multiple bags as the Bucks totaled 11 stolen bases.
Osborne earned the win in the circle, allowing three hits and three runs over two innings while striking out two and walking two. Faith Kapelle handled the final three innings in relief, giving up three hits and two runs while striking out three and walking four. Buckeye also turned one double play on defense, adding to a clean all-around performance.
The Bucks improved their momentum with a game defined by constant pressure at the plate and on the bases. Buckeye travels to face Walsh Jesuit Junior Varsity on Friday in its next game.
