Buckeye rallies from four-run ninth-inning deficit to stun Ashland 6-5

Buckeye Varsity Bucks turned a long night into a memorable one Wednesday, scoring five times in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat Ashland Blazer 6-5. Trailing 5-1 and down to their final chance, the Bucks delivered the kind of comeback that can energize a team and everyone following along. The decisive blow came when Faith Kapelle lined a ball off the fence to bring home the winning run, capping a walk-off finish after Buckeye had been locked in a 1-1 game through the first eight innings.
The game followed a dramatic script. Both teams pushed across a run in the first inning, then the pitchers and defenses took over for much of the evening. Ashland finally broke through in the top of the ninth, scoring four runs to grab what looked like a commanding 5-1 lead. Duckwyler contributed a sacrifice fly during that surge, and Delaney finished as one of Ashland's top run producers with two RBIs.
Buckeye refused to let the game slip away. The Bucks piled up 14 hits and kept the pressure on throughout the final inning, turning contact into a game-changing rally. C. Minarchick led the offense with two hits and three RBIs in five at-bats, including key production during the comeback. K. Morano went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while M. Wilhelm also went 3-for-4 and scored once, helping set the table for Buckeye's late push.
In the circle, Buckeye got a strong staff effort from Olivia Piovarchy and Lilly Young. Piovarchy worked 5.2 innings, and Young covered the final 3.1 innings as the pair combined for 13 strikeouts against an Ashland lineup that finished with 11 hits. Ashland starter R. Harmon kept Buckeye in check for much of the night and logged 8.1 innings, but the Bucks' persistent offense finally broke through in the ninth.
Buckeye finished with one error, Ashland played error-free softball, and that only added to the challenge of the comeback. The Bucks still found a way, answering Ashland's biggest inning with an even bigger one of their own. For Buckeye High School Athletics, it was the kind of win that showed both resilience and belief, with the team battling from a four-run hole in the final inning before F. Shaw's shot off the fence ended it in celebration.
