Buckeye put the game away with a pair of big middle innings Monday, beating Bay 12-0 at Bay High School behind Faith Shaw's two-home run day and another dominant outing from Lilly Young.

Shaw delivered the decisive blows, homering in the third and fourth innings and driving in four runs as the Bucks built separation early and then broke the game open for good. Buckeye scored two runs in the first inning, added four more in the third, then sent six across in the fourth to stretch the lead to 12-0.

The third inning gave the Bucks firm control. Shaw launched a home run to center field, and Kelsey Morano followed with a single down the right field line that brought home two more runs. In the fourth, Buckeye kept the pressure on. Shaw hit her second homer to center, Melillo singled in a run, Addison Riggs added an RBI single, Juliana Melillo scored on a tag-up, and Sienna Berthold drove in another run on a groundout.

Young handled the rest in the circle. The right-hander struck out 13, allowed one hit over five scoreless innings and did not issue a walk. The performance extended Young's scoreless-innings streak to 31, another marker in a strong run for Buckeye's ace.

Buckeye finished with 11 hits and consistent traffic on the bases throughout the afternoon. Morano, Shaw and Ava Piovarchy each collected two hits. The Bucks also drew eight walks, with Shaw and Sarah Michaels taking two apiece. On the bases, Buckeye stole nine bags, with Shaw and Michaels each recording multiple steals.

The Bucks were just as sharp defensively, playing an error-free game behind Young and not allowing Bay to generate any momentum. Next up for Buckeye is a game against Lakewood on Wednesday.
