Buckeye rolls past North Olmsted 21-2 behind Michaels, Piovarchy
Buckeye broke the game open early and never let up Monday, piling up 19 hits in a 21-2 road win over North Olmsted at North Olmsted High School. Sarah Michaels helped drive the outburst with a 3-for-4 day and five stolen bases, while Olivia Piovarchy controlled the circle with five innings of four-hit ball as the Bucks turned a quick lead into a runaway conference victory.
The decisive stretch came in the first three innings, when Buckeye scored four times in the first, added three more in the second and then sent eight runs across in the third. Faith Shaw started the scoring with a single down the right-field line, Ava Piovarchy and Kelsey Morano each brought in a run on groundouts, and Eleanor Shaw doubled to center to cap the opening burst. In the second, Faith Shaw delivered another RBI single and Ava Piovarchy added a squeeze bunt as Buckeye kept pressure on North Olmsted from the start.
The third inning put the game out of reach. Juliana Melillo singled home two runs, Maddie Wilhelm added an RBI groundout, Cassie Minarchick singled in a run, Eleanor Shaw tripled home another, Faith Shaw drew a bases-loaded walk, and Ryenne Ford lined a two-run double. Buckeye added six more runs in the fifth on six hits, highlighted by a run-scoring triple from Sienna Berthold, an RBI single from Michaels and another RBI triple from Faith Shaw. An error and a groundout by Kelsey Willis added to the late surge.
Michaels set the tone at the top of the order, collecting singles in the first, third and fifth innings and creating constant problems on the bases. Faith Shaw finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs, a triple and a stolen base, and Minarchick also went 3 for 4 with two stolen bases. Eleanor Shaw added two hits, including a double and a triple, while Morano drew two walks as Buckeye showed patience as well as power. The Bucks drew six walks and stole seven bases overall.
In the circle, Olivia Piovarchy earned the win with a sharp five-inning outing. The right-hander struck out seven, walked two and allowed no earned runs, with North Olmsted scoring twice on unearned runs. North Olmsted starter Demian took the loss after allowing 15 runs on 12 hits over three innings. With the win, Buckeye carried strong momentum into its next game, a home matchup Tuesday against Bay.
