Riggs drives in four, but Buckeye JV falls to Westlake JV 12-10
Addison Riggs drove in four runs on three hits, but Buckeye Junior Varsity dropped a 12-10 decision to Westlake Junior Varsity on Tuesday in a game that turned on the Demons' six-run second inning.
Buckeye opened the scoring in the bottom of the first and looked sharp early. Ryenne Ford delivered a single that brought home a run, part of a two-run opening frame that gave the Bucks an early edge. Westlake answered quickly in the top of the second, stringing together six runs on six hits to flip a 2-0 deficit into a 6-2 lead, and that surge proved to be the decisive stretch in a high-scoring game.
Even after falling behind, Buckeye kept producing at the plate. The Bucks finished with 19 hits, nearly matching Westlake's offensive output and keeping pressure on the visitors throughout the afternoon. Riggs led the way with three hits and four RBIs. Abby Haun, Kelsey Willis, and Morgan Haas also collected three hits apiece, while Mackenzie Anderson and Ford added multiple-hit games as Buckeye continued to chip away.
Anderson worked 7 innings in the circle for Buckeye. The right-hander struck out three and walked one while allowing 12 runs, 10 earned, on 15 hits. Westlake finished with 15 hits in the win, capitalizing on its big second inning and doing enough late to hold off Buckeye's comeback attempts.
The game was played at Buckeye High School in Medina with temperatures in the mid-50s. Although the Bucks came up short on the scoreboard, the offense showed depth and resilience in a 10-run effort. Buckeye Junior Varsity is scheduled to travel to Valley Forge Junior Varsity for its next game Wednesday.
