Peterson’s three extra-base hits power Union Grove past Kenosha Tremper 14-8

Karlie Peterson delivered the decisive blows Wednesday, driving in four runs on three hits as Union Grove High School defeated Kenosha Tremper 14-8 in a nonconference softball game at 8560 26th Ave. Peterson set the tone early with an RBI triple in the first inning, then added an RBI double in the third and a two-run triple in the fifth as the Broncos built enough separation to withstand Tremper’s late pressure.
Union Grove wasted little time taking control. The Broncos scored five runs in the top of the first inning. Peterson’s triple brought in the first run, an error added another, McKenna Bones followed with an RBI single, and Ciara Hage capped the burst with a two-run home run to center field. Union Grove pushed the lead to 6-0 in the second when Bones drove in another run, then added four more in the third. Maren Brau doubled down the right-field line, Ava Greening tripled down the right-field line, Emma Santarelli doubled and Peterson doubled, with each hit producing a run.
That steady offense was backed by a deep lineup. Union Grove finished with 14 hits, with Bones, Hage, Greening and Brau each recording multiple hits. The Broncos also stayed aggressive on the bases, stealing four bags. Peterson’s fifth-inning triple added two more insurance runs and underscored the kind of extra-base production that carried the offense throughout the afternoon.
Marlee Lange earned the win in the circle for Union Grove. The right-hander worked four innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out four and walking three. Mikayla Bert handled relief duties for the Broncos. Tremper starter Sophia Murphy took the loss after allowing 13 runs, 12 earned, on 13 hits over 4 2/3 innings. Tremper still produced 10 hits and showed patience at the plate with nine walks, helping chip away at the margin as the game moved on.
Mallory Meier led Tremper’s offense from the middle of the order, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Ava DeBartolo, Meier and Hailey Rocha each had two hits, while Sophia Hansen and DeBartolo drew two walks apiece. Tremper was also active on the bases, finishing with six stolen bases, including two by Meier.
Union Grove’s clean defense helped preserve the advantage. The Broncos did not commit an error, and Santarelli led the club with 10 chances in the field. After an offense-heavy win highlighted by Peterson’s big day and several run-scoring extra-base hits.
Union Grove moves on to a road game Thursday at Indian Trail.
