Union Grove High School Varsity Softball Broncos Triumph Over Coleman Varsity Cougars

Katie Madrigal collected three hits in three at bats, as Union Grove HS Varsity Broncos defeated Coleman Varsity Cougars 19-3 on Saturday. Madrigal hit a solo home run to left field in the first inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the third inning. A wild pitch put Coleman Varsity Cougars on the board in the top of the first. Union Grove HS Varsity Broncos flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs on six hits to take the lead, 5-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to left field by Olivia Czuk that drove in three. Union Grove HS Varsity Broncos added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning when River Jamison doubled, scoring one run, McKenna Bones doubled, scoring two runs, and Emma LaFrania singled, scoring one run. Union Grove HS Varsity Broncos added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Brooke Forman grounded out, Bones singled to center field, Coleman Varsity Cougars committed an error, LaFrania singled to the left side of the infield, and Coleman Varsity Cougars committed an error, each scoring one run. Union Grove HS Varsity Broncos scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Marlee Lange doubled, scoring two runs, Tessa Smekens drew a walk, scoring one run, Karlie Peterson singled, scoring one run, and Ella Erickson singled, scoring one run. Kate Nissila earned the win for Union Grove HS Varsity Broncos. The starting pitcher allowed one hit and three runs over four innings, striking out three and walking three. Makenzie Nowak took the loss for Coleman Varsity Cougars. The starter went three innings, allowing 16 runs (14 earned) on 16 hits, striking out none and walking four. Union Grove HS Varsity Broncos piled up 19 hits in the game. Bones, Madrigal, and LaFrania each collected three hits for Union Grove HS Varsity Broncos. Bones and Czuk each drove in four runs for Union Grove HS Varsity Broncos. Jamison, Peterson, and Emma Santarelli each collected multiple hits for Union Grove HS Varsity Broncos. Union Grove HS Varsity Broncos worked the count all day, accumulating seven walks. Union Grove HS Varsity Broncos were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Bones had the most chances in the field with six.
